I’m not too big on awards, but it was pretty cool that this project won two iF awards, including a Gold (the design industry equivalent of an Oscar, I hear). Here’s Daylight co-founder Brett Newman, who led the physical product development, at the ceremony at BMW Welt in Munich.

Logitech saw an opportunity to create a wireless webcam for professional and semi-professional bloggers who have more sophisticated needs than average.

While a partner at Daylight, I led the research and early ideation work, as well as the hardware and software UX design effort. I was able to draw on several previous video communication design experiences, including helping design Cisco’s MeetingPlace while at IDEO. My goal for Logitech was to make the camera even more intuitive and simple than a regular camera, despite the advanced functionality.

The final product can act as the primary camera or as a second camera. The wireless connectivity allows the user to shoot from virtually any angle or location. This flexibility results in significantly richer and more dynamic video content. Read an in-depth review by Engadget here.

The Logitech Broadcaster should be at the top of any video podcaster’s shopping list, as it provides a well-designed wireless option. Just turn on the camera and press the capture button, and you’re on the air.
